What Is Screen and Recoat and Why It’s the Right Call for Tacoma Floors
Professional screen and recoat Tacoma WA service is a two-stage process designed to restore a worn hardwood finish without removing wood from your floors.
Surface Screening
A fine abrasive screening pad lightly scuffs the existing finish to create a clean bonding surface for a new protective coat to adhere properly and last. This is not sanding, and no wood is removed.
Fresh Protective Topcoat
A new professional-grade topcoat is applied over the prepared surface, and once cured, the floor looks renewed and protected without the dust, disruption, or downtime of a full refinish. Think of it like repainting a well-maintained wall: you prepare the surface, then apply a fresh coat.
Screen and Recoat Is Ideal When:
- Floors look dull or worn but have no deep gouges
- It has been 3–7 years since the last finish
- You want preventive maintenance before damage becomes severe
- You’re preparing your Tacoma home for sale
- You want restoration without full sanding disruption
Tacoma Homes Carry Real History
Tacoma’s homes often feature original hardwood floors worth preserving. From Craftsman bungalows in North End and Proctor, to Victorians in the Stadium District, to homes near Ruston Way, many floors carry irreplaceable character.
Why Maintenance Matters in Tacoma
Tacoma’s wet winters and dry summers create seasonal moisture stress on hardwood finishes, and when a finish wears down, moisture can begin reaching the wood itself, where expensive damage can begin.
Greg Johnson approaches every floor with a conservation mindset:
- Least invasive treatment first
- Long-term protection over short-term fixes
- Preservation of original flooring whenever possible

It was a dark and stormy night. My wood floors had seen better days. It had been almost 18 years since the oak shorts saw any professional refinishing. Pets and shoes and moving stuff around did not help keep a beautiful finish on my floors. It was time. I was thinking of giving up when I happened across Greg at Sandless. He came out promptly, told me he would be doing the work, and gave me a quote. Moving everything out is an awful experience but we managed it. Greg took his time, put in the proper amount of prep, repair, and replacing some tile with more wood shorts to give that 100% wood flooring we were looking for in this 1958 open floor plan house. The whole job took some time, we could stay in the house while the work was done because he used the water-based stuff in lieu of the old-school Swedish. Wow, did this turn out amazing. I am so excited about the product. He comes highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()

Greg from Sandless in Seattle did an amazing job with my older wood floors. He was very accomodating to an unfortunate change in my schedule. He worked tirelessly and made sure the job got done when he said it would. I had terrible squeaks in the floor. He took care of them. I didn't remove the toe kick (as he said I didn't need to) and there was no damage to them at all. I was very impress with the whole process. My floors look amazing. If you need your floors done, he is your guy!Posted on Google![]()
